The State Fair of Texas

Welcome to the State Fair!

It's a three-week event at Fair Park in Dallas. My friend Erik came for a short visit from California, and I thought the fair would be the perfect way to introduce him to Texas. It was my first time too, and truly everything is bigger in Texas ... even the ferris wheel!

This is Big Tex. He's 52 feet tall, and welcomes people to the fair. When I first heard about him, phrases such as "larger than life" and "20 stories tall" were used. He's big, but not that big. He talks (really slow, kind of freaky) and you can tell he's been patched up a lot. Erik is giving his best Big Tex impression.

The petting zoo was a big hit with us (and the thousands of kids at the fair that day). Here's a sampling of the animals:

We saw a few of the animals. All the cattle was Texas Longhorns.
Guess I shouldn't be surprised, but they all kind of looked the same.

The other fun thing was at The Museum of Science & Nature, where we saw the Baseball as America exhibit and played with some of the science exhibits. Here we're perfecting our bubble making skills.
